Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. (Davao Light) has expanded its power distribution network in Davao del Norte with the inauguration of its 29th distribution substation at the 63-hectare Anflo Industrial Estate (AIE) in Panabo City on Tuesday.
The San Pedro Substation, located in Barangay San Pedro, was inaugurated by Ricardo Floirendo, vice chairman of the Anflo Group of Companies; Ricardo Lagdameo, president of Damosa Land, Inc.; and Davao Light President and Chief Operating Officer Enriczar Tia, represented by Arnel Bersabe, general manager for North Davao Operations.
Davao Light said the facility is expected to support the continued expansion of industries and businesses in Panabo City and neighboring areas.
The 10-megavolt-ampere (MVA), 69/13.8-kilovolt (kV) substation was energized on August 2 and loaded on August 8 to meet the power requirements of AIE, a Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA)-accredited Special Economic Zone.
The facility is Panabo City’s fourth substation, increasing the available power capacity in the city and surrounding areas. Its inauguration also marks the completion of Phase 1 of the project.
Designed to accommodate long-term growth in electricity demand, the San Pedro Substation is set for further expansion under Phase 2, which will add another 33 MVA of capacity by December 2027.
Upon completion, the digital substation will feature automated monitoring and real-time data transmission, enabling Davao Light to improve the monitoring and management of power distribution. The facility will also be equipped with a solar power system for lighting and a rainwater harvesting system for routine maintenance.
Tia said the project provides critical power infrastructure for the growing economic activity in Panabo and nearby communities.
“The new facility powers the economic engines in AIE, Panabo, and neighboring areas, ensuring reliable electricity and capacity to support continued growth while reflecting our ongoing investments in a more resilient distribution grid,” Tia said.
The San Pedro Substation forms part of Davao Light’s continuing network upgrading and expansion program across its franchise area, particularly in communities experiencing rising residential, commercial, and industrial activity.
With increasing business activity at the Anflo Industrial Estate and the planned expansion of the substation, Davao Light said the project will provide additional capacity for future investments and help ensure that power infrastructure keeps pace with Panabo City’s economic development.
Now on its 80th year of serving local communities, Davao Light, an Aboitiz Power Corporation subsidiary, continues to invest in its distribution infrastructure to meet the evolving electricity needs of businesses and communities across Davao City and parts of Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro.
