Davao del Norte is gearing up to host the first Mindanao Halal Hub Expo in the province from October 16 to 18, an event expected to bring together investors, businesses, and participants from Muslim-majority countries and boost the region’s prospects as a halal business hub.
Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib said the expo is being supported by the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), with Malaysia assisting in coordinating the participation of international groups.
Jubahib said the event is expected to draw participants from Muslim-majority countries interested in exploring halal products, services, trade, and investment opportunities in Mindanao.
“The Muslim countries is base sa advance information nga gihatag sa Malaysia Highness, interested tanan ang mga Muslim countries nga mo-join sa Davao del Norte Mindanao Halal Expo,” he said.
The governor described Davao del Norte’s selection as a host and beneficiary of the initiative as a significant opportunity for the province to expand its role in the growing global halal economy.
“So, happy kaayo ta kay one of the beneficiaries nga kita ang napili,” Jubahib said.
With the expo drawing closer, preparations are being intensified, including efforts to coordinate exhibitors and international participants. Jubahib said Malaysia is helping facilitate the participation of groups from abroad through a committee tasked with handling international delegates.
The governor said the expo will give local enterprises an opportunity to establish connections with the international halal market and explore potential partnerships in trade, investment, tourism, food, and other halal-related industries.
He added that the initiative is part of broader efforts to promote Mindanao as a competitive destination for halal investments while strengthening economic ties with Muslim-majority markets.
