The Davao City Water District (DCWD) assured consumers that Davao City continues to have sufficient water supply despite the possible effects of the El Niño phenomenon.
Speaking during the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps press conference at The Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday, DCWD spokesperson Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod said the agency remains prepared for any impact El Niño may bring to the city’s water resources.
Duhaylungsod reported that DCWD currently has a daily production capacity of 728 million liters of water, while only about 52 percent is being utilized to serve consumers across the city.
She emphasized that the existing supply remains significantly higher than the current water demand, giving the agency confidence in maintaining stable water services even during dry weather conditions.
According to Duhaylungsod, the unused 48 percent serves as surplus supply that can accommodate additional service connections as DCWD continues to expand its operations, particularly in District 2 areas.
The surplus water supply will also serve as part of the agency’s contingency measures in case El Niño affects the city’s water sources.
Duhaylungsod said DCWD is continuously monitoring the situation and implementing preparations to ensure uninterrupted water service for Dabawenyos.
She assured consumers that the water district remains ready to respond to any challenges brought by the dry season while sustaining adequate supply throughout the city.
