Probe underway over Bankerohan market clash

An investigation is now in progress following the disturbance that broke out at Bankerohan Public Market on April 29, 2026, with the Davao City Legal Office taking the lead in determining accountability.

According to Paul Bermejo, head of the Ancillary Services Unit (ASU), the case has already been referred for legal evaluation as authorities work to establish a clear sequence of events during the commotion.

Bermejo said the probe will be reinforced by a sworn statement from an ASU personnel who was injured in the incident.

“Pakuhaan sa nako siya ug sworn statement. Hangtod karon wala pa man siya nakaadto sa City Legal Office tungod kay dili pa stable ang iyahang paminaw. From there mao tu’y basehan nako kung unsa gyud nahitabo didto sa Bankerohan Public Market,” Bermejo said.

He also reiterated his appeal for vendors to cooperate with authorities, emphasizing that clearing operations along public walkways and roads have long been implemented with patience.

“Mu-cooperate lang ta. Magpadayon mi sa pag-implementar ug ayaw mo sobra ug pabadlong,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Davao City Government affirmed that road-clearing operations will continue as part of efforts to maintain order and ensure fairness in public spaces.

“While protecting livelihoods is important, enforcement of existing regulations is necessary to ensure fairness and order. Vendors who comply with the rules are equally entitled to protection. Road-clearing operations will continue to uphold public order and ensure equitable conditions for all,” it said in a statement.
