The “Libreng Sakay para sa Edukasyon” program received a major boost as Liga ng mga Barangay President January N. Duterte rolled out 12 additional service vehicles to provide free transportation for more indigent students across Davao City.
The newly deployed units increase the program’s fleet to 26 vehicles, strengthening efforts to ensure that students, especially those from underserved and far-flung communities, have reliable access to their schools.
Duterte said the expansion is intended to ease the transportation burden faced by learners who travel long distances every day, helping them attend classes regularly without worrying about daily fares.
“Education should be accessible to all. Dili dapat mahimong babag ang kakulang sa pamasahe para makaskwela ang atong mga kabataan,” she said.
She emphasized that the initiative reflects the Liga ng mga Barangay’s continuing commitment to making education more inclusive by addressing one of the common challenges faced by low-income families.
The program has earned positive feedback from communities by providing free daily transportation, allowing students to save on commuting expenses while ensuring safer and more convenient travel to and from school.
One student beneficiary expressed gratitude for the expanded service, saying it has removed a significant source of worry for their family.
“Dako kaayo ni’g tabang sa amo. Makasulod nami sa eskwelahan nga walay kabalaka,” the student said.
Parents also welcomed the additional vehicles, saying the free transportation service helps reduce household expenses and gives them confidence that their children can travel safely every school day.
With the deployment of the 12 new units, Duterte said the “Libreng Sakay para sa Edukasyon” program is expected to serve more students throughout Davao City and further support the city’s goal of making quality education accessible regardless of a family’s financial situation.
