A Swedish business delegation is looking into potential investment opportunities in Davao City after meeting with Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte and Swedish Ambassador to the Philippines Anna Ferry on Monday.
The meeting, organized by the Davao City Investment and Promotions Center (DCIPC), focused on strengthening economic ties and identifying areas for collaboration in sustainable industries.
City officials and representatives from the Swedish Embassy discussed possible partnerships in agribusiness, renewable energy, sustainable manufacturing, and education.
During the courtesy call, Ferry said she was accompanied by Swedish business representatives visiting Davao City to assess investment opportunities and gain a better understanding of the local business environment.
The DCIPC said the Swedish Embassy is currently mapping Swedish companies operating in the Philippines. As part of the delegation’s visit, the group also toured a Swedish-owned business process outsourcing (BPO) company in Davao City.
According to the DCIPC, Ferry expressed confidence that more Swedish firms would expand their presence in the Philippines, particularly in Mindanao, as they continue to seek strategic business opportunities in the country.
Investment discussions also centered on frameworks that could create employment opportunities for Dabawenyos. Duterte identified agribusiness as one of the city’s priority sectors and encouraged Swedish investors to explore opportunities in the industry.
The talks further covered potential cooperation in sustainable steel production, waste-to-energy (WTE) technologies, biogas solutions, and future initiatives in the education sector.
The DCIPC said Duterte assured the delegation that the city government remains committed to providing support and assistance to prospective investors.
Following the meeting, Ferry and the Swedish delegation visited Museo Dabawenyo and the Poblacion District Market, where they explored Davao City’s cultural heritage and sampled local delicacies.
