Yulo settles for eighth in floor exercise at World Championships in Rotterdam

Double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo finished eighth in the men’s floor exercise final at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands, after scoring 13.233 points.

Yulo struggled to complete one of his passes, falling on the mat after failing to stick his landing. He earned 5.800 points for difficulty and 7.633 for execution, along with a 0.10-point bonus, but incurred a 0.30-point penalty.

The Filipino gymnast entered the final as the second-best qualifier after posting 14.500 points, behind Arseniy Dukhno, who scored 14.700.

American Fred Richard captured his first world championship gold medal, while Fil-British gymnast Jake Jarman claimed silver and Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat took bronze.

Richard had earlier declared on social media that he would win gold at this year’s World Championships.

Yulo will have another opportunity to contend for a medal when he competes in the men’s vault final on Sunday.
