The Davao City government has warned residents and visitors against littering in public areas, particularly along the Davao City Coastal Road, as authorities intensify enforcement of the city’s anti-littering ordinance.
The warning followed the issuance of citation tickets to 28 individuals by personnel of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) for allegedly throwing garbage indiscriminately along the Coastal Road from September 8 to 10.
The city government said littering is prohibited under City Ordinance No. 0361-10, which prohibits the scattering, leaving, throwing, and accumulation of garbage in public places such as roads, sidewalks, parks, canals, and other public areas.
Under the ordinance, first-time offenders may be fined P500 or required to render four hours of community service, in addition to attending a mandatory seminar.
A second offense carries a P1,000 fine or eight hours of community service, also with a mandatory seminar.
The city government reminded the public that maintaining cleanliness along the Coastal Road is a shared responsibility, particularly as its parks and recreational areas continue to draw residents and visitors.
CENRO urged the public to properly dispose of their waste and use designated garbage disposal areas when visiting the Coastal Road and its surrounding parks.
Authorities also reminded visitors to observe proper discipline and avoid leaving trash on roads, sidewalks, parks, and other public spaces.
The city government said enforcement will continue to ensure cleanliness and order in public areas and hold violators accountable under the existing ordinance.
