Davao Light and Power Company has begun inspecting and rehabilitating electricity distribution facilities in its newly expanded franchise areas in Davao del Norte after securing full operational control through a court order.
The Regional Trial Court Branch 2 in Tagum City issued a Supplemental Writ of Possession on May 15, 2026, authorizing Davao Light to take over the remaining assets previously managed by the Northern Davao Electric Cooperative (NORDECO).
The expanded coverage includes Tagum City and the municipalities of Asuncion, San Isidro, Kapalong, Talaingod, and New Corella.
According to Fermin Edillon, head of Davao Light’s Reputation Enhancement Department, the company is still conducting a comprehensive assessment of the facilities before determining the rehabilitation budget and project timeline.
He said most of the infrastructure inherited from NORDECO requires urgent improvements, including substations and power lines.
“Nearly all substations and distribution lines need upgrading because these are critical to improving system reliability,” Edillon said.
He emphasized that rehabilitation efforts would take time since Davao Light has only recently gained full access to inspect and evaluate the entire network.
Edillon added that one of the company’s immediate priorities is vegetation management, which aims to reduce outages caused by trees and overgrown plants near power lines.
He said residents in the expanded franchise areas should expect trimming activities in the coming weeks as crews begin clearing vegetation along distribution lines.
To further strengthen the power supply in Tagum City, Davao Light is also constructing an additional transmission line connecting Maco to Tagum. The project is intended to ease the load on the existing line, which the company said is already overloaded.
Despite the scale of the transition, Edillon assured consumers that Davao Light is committed to carrying out the takeover and rehabilitation process smoothly and with minimal disruption to electric service.
