Davao Light and Power Company officially began handling electricity distribution services in Tagum City and the municipalities of Kapalong, New Corella, and Talaingod starting May 26, following the enforcement of a Supplemental Writ of Possession issued by the Regional Trial Court in Tagum City.
During a press briefing, Davao Light President and Chief Operating Officer Enriczar Tia confirmed that the court order authorizes the company to take possession of the power distribution system and begin serving areas previously managed by Northern Davao Electric Cooperative Inc.(Nordeco).
Tia described the development as a significant step in the ongoing transition of electricity distribution operations in Davao del Norte under Republic Act 12144, which expanded Davao Light’s franchise coverage to portions of Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro.
According to the company, the Supplemental Writ of Possession was based on a May 16, 2026 court order affirming Davao Light’s authority to expropriate the entire power distribution system previously operated by Nordeco in the affected areas.
The transition also follows a ruling by the Supreme Court of the Philippines that upheld the constitutionality and validity of Republic Act 12144.
Beginning midnight of May 26, Davao Light assumed full responsibility for power distribution operations in the covered communities, including maintenance services, new power connections, billing and collection, and other customer-related concerns.
The company said electricity consumption in the affected areas will now be billed directly by Davao Light.
As the transition continues, Davao Light assured consumers that efforts are underway to maintain stable and reliable electricity services while ensuring a safe and orderly transfer of operations.
The company also expressed hope for continued coordination and cooperation from Nordeco to help avoid service disruptions during the transition process.
