Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte has been given additional time to prepare documents for his appearance before the Senate impeachment court in connection with the impeachment trial of his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte.
Presiding Officer Francis “Chiz” Escudero on Monday granted the mayor’s request to move his scheduled appearance to September 29 and 30.
In his letter to the impeachment court, Duterte said he needed more time to gather, organize, authenticate, and reproduce the documents required under the subpoena issued to him.
The mayor was originally scheduled to appear from September 28 to 30, following an earlier adjustment to his appearance dates due to a scheduling conflict.
The impeachment court is currently hearing Article 2 of the Articles of Impeachment, which alleges that the Vice President accumulated unexplained wealth due to discrepancies in her Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs) and her alleged failure to divest from business interests while in office.
The House prosecution panel earlier said Duterte may be asked to testify about Gencorp Industries Inc., a company linked to the Vice President.
