COMELEC-Davao logs 271K new voters for BSKE 2026

The Commission on Elections in Davao Region (Comelec-Davao) recorded more than 271,000 newly registered voters during the voter registration period for the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

Comelec-Davao Assistant Regional Director Gay Enumerables said the registration period ended on May 18, 2026, noting a surge of applicants in the final days before the deadline despite the agency’s earlier rollout of satellite registration sites and voter registration caravans in schools and other establishments across the region.

Enumerables said several areas in Davao Region still registered low turnout, prompting the poll body to continue encouraging eligible voters to participate in the upcoming elections.

She also emphasized that the registration process has become more convenient compared to previous years. Applicants only needed to accomplish a single application form before proceeding to biometric capture, replacing the previous requirement of filling out three forms.

However, Enumerables clarified that new voter registration cannot be completed entirely online since applicants are still required to personally appear for biometric data capture.

“As to registration, kinahanglan gyud personal ang pagpakita kay adunay biometrics capture. Walay online registration for new applicants,” she explained.

Earlier this year, the Commission on Elections issued Resolution No. 11191, outlining the calendar of activities for the November 2, 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

Based on the schedule, the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) will take place from September 28 to October 5, 2026. Comelec advised aspiring candidates to file early to avoid last-minute congestion and ensure an orderly filing process.

Meanwhile, the election period will run from October 3 to November 9, while the official campaign period is scheduled from October 22 to October 31, 2026.
