Lean’s Lens | City to Shore: A new travel route redefines the Davao–Mati experience

From the buzz of Davao City to the calm shores of Mati, a new tourism partnership is making it easier for travelers to enjoy both urban convenience and coastal charm in one trip.

I recently joined the two-day
Mati Magic familiarization tour—a collaboration among Park Inn by Radisson Davao, Adelina Hotel and Suites, and Dahican Beach Resort and Spa—designed to showcase how city living and seaside escapes can go hand in hand.

Our adventure started at Subangan Museum on September 29, where the region’s rich biodiversity and stories of survival post-Typhoon Pablo were brought to life. The Mount Hamiguitan scenic representation and local heritage displays offered an insightful glimpse into Davao Oriental’s roots.

Afterward, we made a quick stop to visit the ultralight aircraft operated by the Mindanao Saga Flying Club, which offered a peek into the thrill of recreational flying—adding yet another perspective to Mati’s diverse tourism potential.

From there, we headed to Dahican Beach Resort and Spa, where the vibe immediately shifted. Set against a stretch of clear waters and soft sand, the resort offered just the right dose of peace. A Swedish massage at Da Spa capped off our day.

The highlight of the tour came the next day with the Pujada Bay island-hopping experience. We visited Wanibad, Pujada, and viewed the elusive Oak Island, also known as the Vanishing Island. Though rough waters kept us from setting foot on Oak, the view of it standing alone in the middle of the bay was striking.

Even under the blazing sun, the bay delivered scenes you’d only expect to see in postcards. It’s the kind of place where time slows and nature takes center stage.

What sets this partnership apart is its well-planned approach to travel. Park Inn by Radisson Davao offers a comfortable starting point in the city, while Adelina Hotel and Suites serves as a convenient rest stop for families and groups. Dahican Beach Resort completes the route with a peaceful yet stylish beachside stay.

Together, they’re not just promoting destinations—they’re creating a streamlined experience that combines relaxation, discovery, and ease.

This Davao–Mati tourism link proves that you don’t have to choose between the city and the sea—you can have both in one journey.

Special thanks to GM Sven Toune, Liza Gamo, Thea Ledesma, and Raphaella Marie of Park Inn by Radisson Davao, and Girlie Alagano and Evan Cullen Agones Alcantara of Adelina Hotel and Suites for making the trip seamless and memorable.
