There are lots of ways to escape from the hustle and bustle of every day grind and personally I prefer wine tasting as a form of relaxation as it allows me to slow down, disconnect from the daily stress, and appreciate the nuances of the wine.
I attended Swiss Deli Davao Restaurant’s wine tasting on Thursday night, pondering nothing less than an amazing journey to the world of wines.
Every wine tasting is different from the other, but expect the same energy and excitement from Swiss Deli’s avid wine connoisseurs, who are always raring to explore the experience.
When I arrived, the cellar of Swiss Deli was already overwhelmed with wine lovers – sniffing, sipping, and savoring a varietal of wines from Montes, the star of the night’s affair.
The first wine up was the Alpha Special Cuvee Chardonnay 2021, which has a good nose features standout ripe tropical fruit aromas of pineapple and banana, accompanied by white fruits that recall peaches.
Next came the Cherub Rose of Syrah 2023, which has a hint of fresh red fruit aromas such as raspberries, strawberries, and pomegranate.
I tasted the Alpha Special Cuvee Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, with potent aromas of ripe fruits such as blackberries, blueberries, and plums.
I also had the Montes Outer Limits Syrah 2022 with tasting notes of a deep, impressive purple colour and aromas of floral notes and then a variety of berries, including blackberry, blueberry, and cherry. There are also notes of black pepper, candied fruit, and berry syrup.
Lastly, I moved to Montes Wings Carmenere, which has a deep red colour, with the purple undertones very characteristic and a nose of black fruit, such as blackberry and blueberry, accompanied by pleasing spice notes of bell pepper and black pepper.
I was told to “have a bite of this, drink that, smell this, sip that, and drink some more.”
The vibe was filled with the gentle murmur of conversation and the clinking of glasses.
Of course, a wine pairing is not complete without the cold cuts, the cheeses, and the sausages of Swiss Deli, which never fail to satisfy not only our palates but also our tummies.
I have attended Swiss Deli’s wine tastings before, but the recent event was fantastic as I was able to foster a connection and even sparked new friendship.
