Four motorcycles were involved in a collision early Thursday morning along MacArthur Highway in Toril, Davao City, leaving several people injured.
Toril police said the accident happened at about 1:10 a.m..
The motorcycles involved were a Yamaha XMAX driven by Edgemir Gurtiza Escolano; a Yamaha Aerox driven by Jebril Matara; a Honda XRM driven by Alfredo Estorba Suizo III, with 23-year-old Genevive Repalda as back rider; and a Suzuki Raider driven by JL Prestin.
Based on the initial police investigation, Escolano said he and Matara were traveling toward Toril Proper when they encountered the Suzuki Raider allegedly traveling against the flow of traffic at a high rate of speed.
Escolano said he swerved toward the inner lane to avoid a collision, but the Suzuki Raider sideswiped the muffler portion of his motorcycle.
The Suzuki Raider then collided with the Yamaha Aerox and was thrown toward the outer lane, where it struck the Honda XRM, which was also traveling toward Toril Proper.
All four motorcycles sustained damage.
The drivers of the Yamaha Aerox, Honda XRM and Suzuki Raider were injured, while Repalda, the Honda XRM’s back rider, also sustained injuries. Police said Repalda was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The Yamaha Aerox driver was assisted by Emergency Medical Team of Central 911 and brought to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for treatment. The Suzuki Raider driver was also taken to SPMC with assistance from Barangay Lizada responders.
Suizo and Repalda told police they would seek medical treatment on their own.
The Yamaha Aerox and Honda XRM were brought to the police station for proper disposition, while the Suzuki Raider was picked up by the driver’s companions. Police said the other motorcycles were moved from their original positions after the collision.
Escolano later told police that he would no longer pursue a complaint over the damage to his motorcycle and requested that the incident be documented.
Police are continuing their investigation into the accident.
