City gov’t of Davao probes New Carmen mass wasting incident; 1 dead, 2 hurt

The city government of Davao and the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) are investigating a mass wasting incident that struck Barangay New Carmen in Tugbok District on Wednesday afternoon.

City Information Officer Harvey Lanticse said the incident happened at around 1:17 p.m.

As of 4:30 p.m., authorities confirmed one fatality and two injured individuals who are currently undergoing medical treatment. Two others were also reported missing.

“The LGU, together with the DCPO, is currently investigating the mass wasting incident,” Lanticse said.

He added that the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) has coordinated with the families of the victims to provide immediate assistance.

“The CSWDO is already in touch with the families of the affected individuals to ensure that immediate assistance will be extended,” he said.

Emergency response teams from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO), City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), barangay disaster response units, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the DCPO were deployed to the area.

Authorities are continuing clearing, security, and assessment operations at the site.
