Coast Guard member arrested in Davao drug sting; P81.6K worth of shabu seized

A member of the Philippine Coast Guard was arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted by joint law enforcement units in Doña Mercedes Subdivision, Sasa, Davao City on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

The operation was led by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office 11 (PDEA RO 11), in coordination with the National Bureau of Investigation – Southeastern Mindanao Regional Office (NBI SEMRO XI) and the Philippine Coast Guard.

The suspect, a 33-year-old Coast Guard personnel identified by the alias “Edgardo,” was caught in the act of allegedly selling illegal drugs to an undercover operative.

Authorities recovered five sachets of suspected shabu from the suspect, including the marked buy-bust item. The confiscated drugs had an estimated weight of 12 grams and a street value of P81,600.

Law enforcement officials said the operation was carried out following confirmed intelligence reports and surveillance on the suspect’s alleged drug-related activities.

They underscored that the arrest reflects the continued coordination among agencies in addressing illegal drugs and reiterated the government’s intensified campaign against such activities.

Charges for violation of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, are currently being prepared against the suspect.

PDEA RO 11 emphasized that anti-drug efforts remain firm and impartial, stressing that all individuals will be held accountable under the law regardless of their position or affiliation.
