The reward for information leading to the arrest of the gunman and the alleged mastermind behind the killing of Barangay Tres de Mayo Captain Oscar “Dodong” Bucol Jr. has surged to P4 million, following new commitments from national and local officials, as well as from the victim’s own family.
Vice President Sara Duterte and Davao del Sur Governor Yvonne Cagas each pledged P1 million on Wednesday, initially raising the bounty to P2 million. Their joint call urged the public to help authorities quickly identify and arrest those responsible for the attack, which occurred inside Bucol’s home in Digos City on Tuesday night.
The victim’s father later added another P1 million, saying his contribution stemmed from deep sorrow and an unwavering desire to secure justice for his son.
“Hustisya ang ginapangayo sa amahan alang sa iyang anak,” family members said as they confirmed his pledge.
By Thursday, Davao Occidental lone District Representative and former governor Claude Bautista added P1 million more, bringing the total reward to P4 million.
Officials said the full amount will be awarded to anyone who can provide reliable information that will lead to the arrest of both the shooter and the mastermind.
Authorities hope the increased reward will motivate potential witnesses or individuals with knowledge about the case to come forward. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and follow leads in what has become a high-profile case that has unsettled residents of Digos City and the wider Davao region.
As the probe continues, officials and the Bucol family are appealing to the public for cooperation and solidarity to help ensure justice for the slain barangay captain.
