Vice President Sara Duterte on Sunday paid tribute to Filipino teachers for their vital role in empowering the youth and contributing to nation-building.
“Sa araw na ito, ating kinikilala ang mahalagang papel na ginagampanan ng ating mga guro sa pagtaguyod ng matatag na sambayanan at maliwanag na kinabukasan para sa ating mga kabataan,” Duterte said in a video message marking World Teachers’ Day.
She lauded educators for their dedication to their profession and their efforts in shaping the skills and potential of young Filipinos.
“Kaming lahat ay nagbibigay-pugay sa inyong malaking kontribusyon sa pag-unlad ng inyong propesyon at sa pagsulong ng potensyal at kasanayan ng mga kabataang Pilipino,” she added.
Observed every October 5, World Teachers’ Day commemorates the signing of the UNESCO recommendation that set international standards for the teaching profession.
Duterte also acknowledged the sacrifices and perseverance of teachers in delivering quality education despite various challenges.
“Hangad namin ang inyong patuloy na tagumpay, kalakasan at kalusugan, at nakikiisa kami sa inyong mga mithiin para sa kapakanan ng ating kabataan at bayan,” the Vice President said.
“Nawa’y magsilbi pa kayong inspirasyon sa mas marami pang kabataan, habang inyong buong sigasig na nilalakbay ang daan tungo sa ating nagkakaisang hangarin para sa isang matatag na Pilipinas,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Department of Education (DepEd) on Saturday said it would take “meaningful action”on longstanding issues raised by Filipino teachers, including calls for salary increases, reduced workload, and a more responsive education budget.
As part of government efforts, Executive Order No. 64, signed on August 2 last year, provides for salary increases for government workers—including teachers—to be implemented in four tranches, starting from 2024 to 2027.
