Acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte has assured Cebuanos of the city’s full support in the wake of the powerful earthquake that struck Bogo City and nearby areas, pledging immediate assistance through emergency and relief operations.
“Yes, we will send help to Cebu. The City Government is already coordinating with the Office of Civil Defense and PDRRMO Cebu,” Duterte said in a statement released Tuesday.
A magnitude 6.9 earthquake hit Bogo City at 9:59 PM on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, triggering a Red Alert across Cebu province. The tremor caused widespread destruction, power and communication outages, and multiple landslides.
As of 3:54 PM, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO)confirmed 65 fatalities, 293 injuries, and thousands displaced due to the quake’s impact on northern Cebu.
In response, the Cebu Provincial Government and affected local government units (LGUs)have declared a State of Calamity to expedite rescue and relief efforts. Medical teams, ambulances, and emergency supplies have been mobilized, and a Donation Command Centerhas been established at Heritage Park, Capitol Compound.
Mayor Duterte announced that Davao City’s 911 Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams, along with medical and psychosocial support personnel, are on standby for deployment to assist in ongoing rescue and humanitarian operations. The city is also preparing food packs and other essential supplies for immediate distribution to affected communities.
“Davao City is ready to extend manpower, medical care, and humanitarian assistance to help our fellow Filipinos in Cebu recover from this tragedy,” Duterte added.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded 795 aftershocks following the initial earthquake, many of which were felt across the province. Though the quake lasted only seconds, it caused significant infrastructure damage, complicating rescue and relief operations.
