Davao Light residential rate rises by P1.56/kWh for Sept–Oct billing

Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. (Davao Light) has announced an increase in its overall residential electricity rate by P1.5625 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) this September 2025. The new rate stands at P10.6407/kWh, up from P9.0782/kWh in August.

For households consuming 200 kWh per month—typically those using essential appliances—this translates to an approximate P312.50 increase in their electricity bills covering the billing period from September 11 to October 10.

The rate adjustment is primarily due to higher power supply prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), driven by recent power plant outages. These outages contributed to the yellow alerts issued by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) last month. Since Davao Light sources a portion of its power from the spot market, fluctuations in generation costs significantly impact consumer rates.

While Davao Light remains committed to maintaining stable and reasonable electricity prices, monthly rates are still affected by various factors including fuel prices, market dynamics, and individual consumption patterns.

In light of the increase, Davao Light is encouraging customers to be more mindful of their electricity usage to better manage monthly bills and avoid unexpected charges. As part of its consumer awareness campaign, Davao Light offers practical guidance on how to estimate daily or monthly energy consumption per appliance—an important step in understanding and controlling household electricity costs.
