The Davao City Police Office – Traffic Enforcement Unit (DCPO-TEU) impounded 16 e-tricycles operating illegally along national highways and major city roads, as part of a crackdown on unauthorized vehicles.
The operation, led by PEMS Roey Ociones and supervised by TEU chief Lt. Col. Garcia, was carried out in accordance with Section 92 of the Davao City Traffic Ordinance, which prohibits the use of e-bikes and e-tricycles on primary thoroughfares.
DCPO spokesperson Capt. Hazel Tuazon said the enforcement effort was prompted by growing concerns over public safety.
“E-bikes and e-tricycles are not designed for high-speed traffic. Their presence on major roads increases the risk of accidents and collisions, especially involving fast-moving vehicles,” Tuazon explained.
She added that the operation also aimed to enforce compliance with the Land Transportation and Traffic Code (Republic Act 4136), which requires all vehicles to meet specific safety standards and registration requirements before being allowed on public roads.
Authorities have warned that similar operations will continue as part of efforts to ensure road safety and maintain order on Davao City’s busy streets.
